On February 23, 2010, 4 DC Canadian riders: Max Honegger, Rupert Davies,
Logan Haubrich, Andrew Geeves, 1 filmer: Ryan Slizack and myself (Nick
Moore, DC TM), jumped on a plane to Park City, Utah for 10 day trip that
only those allowed in can appreciate. Once arriving at the DC Mtn. Lab we
were shocked, we had this entire house and private snowboard park to
ourselves.
As soon as the team was up and ready after scoping out the property, the
air bag was blown up, the sky was blue, and the sleds were full of gas. We
all knew this was going to be one week we would never forget.
The first thing the team had to do was test out the airbag…the drop in was
literally right on our front deck, who wouldn’t give it a “tester-rosa”,
nothing says good morning like a few inverts and a fresh 2 minute cup of
coffee.
The park crew showed up most days, led by Chris “Cheez Burga” Vaughn. He
gave us a few guidelines, share the beer, clean the house, and have fun! The
man himself then headed over to the park and started up the “Little Biggie”
rope tow followed by Riley and Evan Drage who then started to groom the
landings and pointed out some of the key features: the bomb jib, the snake
run, the pvc pipes, and the soon to be road gap.
Each day was nonstop, lap after lap, run after run. Eventually the team
started to get tired, but only to fuel up on some deli meat sandwiches,
donuts, and more coffee then hop onto a sled and rip back to the park for
more riding. The days ended with quick games to 11 of ping pong…best of 3,
some og shred vids, dance parties with Logan aka DJ Parrot (OKAY!) followed
by a nice soak in the hot tub.
Some highlights of the trip were the hip and road gap sessions, and the long
and winding, speed bump after speed bump snake run (15 features all linked
together in and out of the trees). We also had some visitors from the park
crew at Park City, Bozwreck. Aaron Biittner, Sean Black and Scotty Arnold
came by for some air time on the air bag. Nick Olsen (DC US Snow TM) aka
“Stone Cold” who has been at the Lab from the get go was on site to give a
hand grooming and to help out with tickets for a day at Park City.
Many, many thanks go out to Nick Olsen and his park crew Cheez Burga, Riley
and Evan Drage, Sean Lake, Shawna Olsten, Sandbox, and most importantly the
riders Max, Logan, Rupert and Andrew. Thanks for everybody’s positive
attitude and good times, I am stoked on the crew we had down at the Lab and
I am looking forward to seeing the footage.
