The Second Annual WESTCOAST TRIPLE PLANK went off last weekend on Vancouver Island, B.C. and it was an absolute blast! Over $ 7000 was raised for Central Westcoast Forest Society during the 3-day competition of SNOW, SKATE and SURF held in Ucluelet, Tofino and Mount Washington Alpine resort. Sandbox was amongst a great line up of brands and partners who supported the event.

Running from May 3rd - May 5th, competition spanned 3 separate disciplines combining for an overall Trifecta score to be crowned Westcoast Triple Plank champion in both Men’s and Women’s categories. The event kicked off with check-in and tree planting in Ucluelet with the Central Wescoast Forest Society (CWFS). Native trees and shrubs were planted on the CWFS wild salmon habitat restoration sites.

Competition commenced the next day with the Surfing component at Cox Bay, Tofino in a 5 person heat format. Kimberley Mullen taking out the Women’s division and Doug Boulton winning in Men’s.

The Skate Comp was a Jam format held at Tofino Skatepark in the afternoon following the surf component. Jessy Poirier took 1st in Women’s and Jeremy Randall in the Men’s.

On the following and final day of competition, the Snowboarding component went down at Mount Washington Alpine resort. This was a fun day in the sun as competitors took to the hand dug banked slalom course to race for the best time. Sara Niblock was fastest in the Women’s and Sandbox Founder, Kevin Sansalone took out the Men’s division.

Following the conclusion of all competition, a silent auction and awards night was held at Ted’s Bar and Grill at the Mount Washington Lodge. Here, the Westcoast Triple Plank champs we’re announced. In the Women’s overall Trifecta, 1st - Robin Vangyn, 2nd - Amy Sousa, 3rd - Jessy Poirier. In the Men’s overall Trifecta, 1st - Nicolas Bertrand, 2nd - Jon Versteeg & 3rd - Nick Felice.

Overall, the event was a great success. It’s a fun approach to raising funds and awareness for the Central Westcoast Forest Society with 100% of proceeds going to CWFS. The awards were generously crafted by Paul Own Woodworks with artwork by Sarah King.
